Maheshan came to see me at the beginning of October to ask if I could help him break 80. We put together a 3-month plan, involving some swing changes and practice routines.
The results speak for themselves. Check it out below.
Andy and his son Stuart have decoded to improve their game together this December and it look like Stuart is doing a little better at this stage. Check out this video we did with both trying to improve their path on the downswing, never know if it might help you…
“A big congratulations to Amy Fletcher for coming 2nd in the Mount Edgecombe Club Champs, Amy also qualified for the finals of the Match Play where she will meet Bronwyn Rae. Young Charlotte Phipps also competed in the Club Champs and I just wanted to congratulate her for getting this far in her golfing career, especially with all the challenges thrown at you. I am very proud of you and can’t wait to see what lies ahead with your golf”.
How is this throwback of Amy Fletcher when she first started with me at 6 years old? Oh, how the time flies!
New golfer, Matt's planned gap year to go overseas obviously didn’t go as planned (much like the rest of us), so he decided to put some time into learning to play golf. The results have been awesome! Check out his progress in the video below.
The Van der Merwe family taking lessons for the past few months, one of the many families who have found golf to be a refuge after lockdown. Take a look at how they have all improved!
I had two students this month that are worth looking at, one, a seasoned golfer who had lost his way and another absolute beginner. Both examples show the importance of sound fundamentals…
Seasoned Golfer - Chris and his backswing - you will see in the “before” picture he is crossing the line with a closed clubface at the top of his backswing. The fix was as simple, stand closer to the ball at address and make sure to let the body rotation start the swing, what a difference!
Beginner Golfer - Kive - we worked on his coordination an alignments. It's amazing - as it is with many things - that when we understand something it looks so simple compared to when we don’t.
Improve your golf from anywhere, just like Eugene Maree
Eugene put in a lot of work during lockdown and with the help of Zoom and V1 software we were able to make some very positive changes. A few weeks ago, once inter provincial travel was allowed, he came to visit for a one-on-one session. It's great to see the dividends paying off.
I had a little time this week to do a re-fit on my own clubs and with the help of Melville I tried out the new Switch Grip technology. I must say the results surprised and impressed me. My clubs felt better, I was more consistent and there seemed to be an increase in the distance I hit my irons. I would describe the concept as fine tuning, and because you can actually test the grips there is an impact immediately on what you sense. I would strongly recommend looking at these as an excellent way to enhance your new or existing clubs.
It was a chance tip that I gave Mark Carstens that ignited his enthusiasm to work on his technique and the results so far have been very rewarding. Check out the video to see what change we made…
Mich du Preez and Eugene Maree get the best out of their game
The results from the two students that I had who worked remotely with me, via Zoom, has opened my eyes to the value that we can deliver online. If you would like to look at how to get the best out of your game, please give me a call on 031 833 0753.
The Vodacom Durban July was a little different this year. Nothing is immune to the Covid pandemic. For some fun we ran a sweep for all the Range and Bistro staff, and there were some smiling faces from the winners: Npumela, Sbu and Fridolan.

On a more positive note, watch this video to see the wonderful improvement that Moira as made during lockdown. Our weekly Zoom lessons and the sharing of her practice sessions on the V1 App (free) have produced some excellent results.
The tip I gave Sarvan can be viewed here, it’s an excellent drill to do at home…
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the tip yesterday. It pays to go to those who know and not listen to all the range rats who think they know. J.
I think your 5-minute session will do more good for my game than me hitting 1000 balls in a week and not having a clue of how to achieve a proper strike. I think there’s a huge lesson for all us amateur golfers, we’ll spend thousands of Rands hitting balls but won’t invest in a 5-minute session with a trained professional who’ll get us doing the right things much quicker without hitting so many balls. J.
I have done a screen grab below of Justin Spieth’s swing sequence (bottom right to top left) to show how by doing the impact drill you showed me yesterday will achieve what I asked you in my initial question i.e. how to "cover the ball"!
Much appreciated, Sarvan Much appreciated, Sarvan" />
